Hi,

I have a physical Windows server that I want to convert to a Vmware virtual machine.

There is one huge folder on the physical machine that I want to exclude in the P2V job (it is on the C: drive so I cannot just deselect it).

Is that possible to achieve?

I use Vmware workstation at the moment, but if needed other version would be possible aswell.

Ase,

are you using VMware Converter for this task or are you using some other P2V tool?

Ase,

My lab at home is torn down for a few days -- including the machine on which I run VMware Workstation. As soon as my lab is set back up, I'll be a little testing and get some information back to you.

Hi All,

Any new info on this, the problem still persist.
I also tried the newly released tool "VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client 5.0" but with no success.

Is it possible to convert this folder to a mounted volume? Then before running the P2V you can dismount the volume!

Hi,
No I cannot see that as a solution.
This is an produktion server with everything on Drive C and I dont want to mess with the drive, like ex. splitting the drive to C & D.

I need every now & then to make a P2V and test new programs to see that they work before I apply them to the physical server.

The extra folder is just costing me a lot of extra space and time everytime I make the P2V.

Ase,

Going along with George's idea... could you move everything to another volume and make it appear as if it's still on the C drive by creating an NTFS junction point? I recently had to do something similar and it worked well. I couldn't reconfigure an application to use a different drive and this method solved the issue.
