In what scenarios using Jumbo frames is recommended? Is it enabled by default?

In VMware, I think we need to turn on Jumbo frame support explicitly both on the vSwitch, portGroup/vdPortGroup and the physical switch.

I think turn on Jumbo frame support will not have negative impact to the system but this will help to transport the frame more efficiently.
