One of my colleagues  recently have installed a VMware Virtual center and it is in production environment and we have 6 ESX host and 150 VM controlled by VC.

Unfortunately , my colleague leaved the company and I don't know where Virtual Center Database located , I cant find it it the Virtual Center Server.

How I can find the location of database ? is there any command or option in GUI or a registry key?

Please help me ....

Thanks

Is someone in charge of database relate stuff on your company?
Ask him, maybe hi knows......

in the VC Server you can try tracing all the connection and maybe you can find it.

* In the VC Server did you check the DSN ? there must be the ip/host of the SQL Server.

Dariush -

Hopefully, as ariel pointed out, the person that set up vCenter for you did so in a way that will make it obvious which ODBC connection is being used by vCenter. From there, you'll be able to open that ODBC connection and identify the name of the server on which the vCenter DB is housed.

If, however, you're not able to figure out which ODBC connection is being used by vCenter, do the following:

  • Start Regedit
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware VirtualCenter\DB
  • In the registry key named "1", you'll see the name of the vCenter ODBC connection.

Best of luck!

Scott
