Virtualization is not a new concept. It's been around for decades and started with the mainframe. If you're looking for a way to kill some time, read VMware's History of Virtualization site; it has a lot of interesting details about where we were and where we are.

In concept, I relate mainframes more with Cloud computing rather than virtualization where you have massive computational power /storage at the Cloud/mainframe side and thin clients/terminals at the users side!!!!

There are very few people aware of that how invented virtualization. Jim Rymarczyk, who joined IBM as a programmer in the year of 1960 just as the mainframe giant. Still at Big Blue today as an IBM fellow and chief virtualization technologist
