Oracle this week purchased standalone storage company Pillar Data. With a number of high profile acquisitions over the past couple of years, there are few small independent storage companies left. Nexsan and Xiotech are two that spring to mind. I'm a Xiotech customer and am very pleased with the solution. I'd be thrilled to see the company acquired by a firm with a strong commitment to maintaining the product line.

Nexsan has been around a while and seems to be doing just fine. I'm confident that Xiotech can continue to go it alone as well, if necessary.

What do you think? Can the two remaining significant players stay in the game or will they, too, be acquired?

Scott
