Microsoft's upcoming Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 includes RemoteFX, a VDI graphics enhancement that needs a 3D graphics card to operate. Does Dell's M610x blade server bring VDI & graphics together in a blade format?

Dell M610x: A perfect blade for VDI?

Ariel,

We currently have a mix of M600 and M610 blades and I'm also in love with the whole solution. So darn easy to manage, extremely affordable and rock solid.

When you say you're getting 5 of these, are you getting 5 blades or 5 chassis? Did you get the M610x variety?

I'd love to hear your after-installation thoughts on the M610x.

Ariel -

Sorry to ask so many questions!

What is your use case for going with the full height M610x rather than the half height M610? What kinds of PCI-E cards do you plan to put into the M610x blades? Graphics, RAID, etc?

I got a hands on look at the M610x blade at VMworld in San Francisco. Most definitely a full height blade. The M600 and M610 are the half-height varieties but don't include PCI-E slots.

Ariel,

Did you ever get your blade order figured out? Were they the right blades?

Hey, Ariel -

Did you ever get to play around with RemoteFX?

Also, have you guys gone to Moodle 2.0 yet? How was the transition from 1.9 to 2.0 for your faculty? I expect that we'll look at 2.0 next year.
