Scott Lowe -> Virtual CPUs vs. physical processors (4.Nov.2010 1:29:23 AM)

I recently read a question in a forum where a person asked about the difference/relationship between virtual CPUs (vCPUs) and physical processors and cores.

The short answer: a vCPU equates to one physical processor CORE. So, if you have a dual quad-core server, you can assign up to 8 vCPUs to a single virtual machine (in theory and if your hypervisor software supports it).
