Hi - I have the following project and would like to know if anyone has something similar and if they can share best practices on it:

I have 1 standalone ESXi 4.0 host and would like to upgrade it to vSphere Essentials 4.1.

What I am trying to figure out is whether I can utilize the Update Utility to
upgrade the host from ESXi 4.0 to Essentials 4.1?

Can someone please provide some guidance for this upgrade.

Thanks,
Dimitriy

Dimitry,

You should be able to use the update utility to move from 4.0 to 4.1. Your license key will be used to unlock the Essentials features.

Do you need some additional steps to do the actual update?

Scott,

First of all...thanks very much for your response.

I am familiar with the update utility, but, when registered for a 30-day trial of VMware Essentials 4.1, I am only able to download the ISO image files for ESXi or ESX version.   The update utility is asking for an upgrade Package, which comes in *.zip format.

Am I supposed to somehow extract the zip file out of the ISO image?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Dimitriy-

I just made the attempt to download ESXi 4.0 and was presented with the option to download an upgrade ZIP package as well as an ISO package.  You should be able to use that ZIP package and then apply your Essentials license key.

I might be misunderstanding your question, though...

Dlanis -

Hi there! I wanted to write to follow up and ask if you were able to get your server updated. I wasn't sure if I was answering your question correctly so I'd be interested in hearing back!

You should be able to use the ZIP package, and then apply your license key necessary.
