In Hyper-V, you have the option to create a number of virtual networks based on your needs. Here are different ways that you can configure new virtual networks:

  • External. Attaches the virtual network to a physical network adapter, enabling the new virtual network to communicate with the outside world.
  • Internal only. The virtual machines on these kinds of networks can communicate only with the host.
  • Private virtual machine network. Only virtual machines on this network can communicate with one another. Even the host doesn't participate in the VM communication. This is great for lab environments.
